The RVDA is a formal body that was formed by Jane and Mark Edwards initially on behalf of American Motorhome Dealers in the UK as a platform that could deal with any issues that might arise either now or in the future. A similar organisation exists in the USA to promote the RV Lifestyle and the RVCommunity, from which everyone benefits, both dealers and customers alike. With the increasing number of American Motorhomes entering the UK, both dealer supplied and individually imported, it was apparent that there was a need for such an organistaion to act as a mediator with government legislators and at the same time provide the industry with a truthful and dedicated source of information. Contrary to statements made by some dealers ,all American Motorhomes whether supplied by a main dealer or otherwise are manufactured on the same production lines.The Uk market being too small for a dedicated line. All American RVs(recreational vehicles)are designed for the American Market .Most do not differ in the fundamental aspects of design . Dimensions and weights are based on the Chassis manufacturer ,incomplete chassis are tested and determine the GVWR . This does not alter on the completed vehicle and is not manufacturer or model dependent. However some main dealers can request that they are accessorised differently. Generally warranties held on these vehicles are held by the dealer who is supplying the vehicle and not the manufacturer and therefore the warranty is only as good as the person or company supplying the goods. All American motorhomes are converted in the UK,.Buyers should beware of vehicles which on the surface appear a bargain as most of these have not been converted correctly.All respectable dealers convert their vehicles to a professional standard with safety features included. The RVDA was formed following issues that arose during 2006.Restrictions were imposed on newly imported American Motorhomes by DVLA .These issues and many other grey areas were always present but had never caused a problem. Various meetings were held throughout the year concerning these matters with all the dealers in the UK in attendance. It was decided that despite our differences that for the benefit of the American Motorhome, the industry and their Owners that we approach this situation as one consolidated front. The RVDA was formed as an official association and legal entity and registered as such at Companies House.
